About Wallpaper Manager 3.21

The main goal of the program
T
he program was written to make changes of wallpaper simpler. The main idea is that when you change wallpaper, you sometimes want to change background color, so that it would suit the picture. If you have a lot of different pictures with different background colors, it is very easy to forget the exact background color. With Wallpaper Manager this problem disappears, as it remembers a background color in addition to the wallpaper bitmap file, so that you get some kind of a scheme: wallpaper file + background color.

Other features
New!! Now Wallpaper Manager supports JPEG files. You may store your wallpapers in .jpg files. When Wallpaper Manager needs to set a wallpaper, which is in a .jpg file, it converts it to the .bmp file and sets that created .bmp file as wallpaper. When the newly created file is no longer needed, Wallpaper Manager deletes it.
The program saves all the created schemes into a log file and stores it on disk. It also supports automatic archiving (compressing) of .bmp files using compression utilities. WinRAR and PkZip/PkUnZip are supported. Wallpaper Manager does not create an archive by itself, but it executes the archiver to compress/extract the files, so you don't need to bother about running archivers. And this also saves free space on your hard disk. (WinRAR provides better compression - the size of the archive is ~40% of the size of the stored files, but PkZip/PkUnZip is 3-4 times faster than WinRAR).
Both these programs are available as shareware on the Internet. You can download WinRAR at http://rarsoft.com. Pkware's PkZip/PkUnzip can be downloaded at http://pkware.com.

Note, that using .jpg files is free and they occupy much less space than archived .bmp files.

Automatic wallpaper changing
You may set Wallpaper Manager to change wallpaper every time you start Windows. If you set so, it will be run at startup, monitoring the shut down event. Then on the system shut down it will quietly set a new wallpaper and Windows will continue shut down process as usually, but when it (re)starts, you will see another wallpaper on your screen1.
From the version 3.21 you may select the priority setting for wallpaper schemes. Priority setting means how frequently you will see the selected wallpaper when you use Set random wallpaper feature. If you select higher priority, then the scheme will appear more frequently when you select Change wallpaper now! item from ASoft Wallpaper Manager menu or when you click Set random wallpaper button in the main dialog, or when you restart your computer with the option Automatically set wallpaper at startup enabled.

Interface of the program
...is very simple. It is a dialog-based application. The main window represents itself a dialog with the list of currently created schemes. The process of adding/deleting a scheme is simple. You may also select a scheme and apply it to the Windows.

1The process of setting wallpaper on shutdown was necessary to avoid appearance of the old wallpaper at startup.
