Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Meet Accidentally in Africa
April 24th, 2005 - LONDON – The British tabloid The Sun has published exclusive photos of a chance meeting between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on a secluded beach in Africa. The stunning photos, for which The Sun paid a reported £1 million, capture the looks of astonishment on the two friends’ faces as they spot each walking along a pristine deserted stretch of sand last week. According to Pitt's publicist, Cindy Guagenti, the forty-one-year-old actor arrived in Africa on Monday April 18 to prepare for his singing debut in the “Make Poverty History” celebrity telethon to be carried live on MTV next Sunday. Pitt joined other celebrities—including Kylie Minogue, Bob Geldof, Kate Moss, and Carrot Top—who had signed an agreement with Comic Relief founder, Richard Curtis, to ease the plight of poor nations.
“Although Mr. Pitt has never personally experienced hunger,” said Guagenti, “as an actor he is sensitive to its nuances and has demonstrated an astonishing ability to recognize the symptoms of hunger wherever he sees them. Mr. Pitt is dedicated to eradicating those symptoms.”
During a break from meetings and rehearsals, Pitt hired a private jet to fly him to a secluded beach at an undisclosed location near a large body of water. As he was walking along the pristine deserted beach practicing his scales, Pitt saw a familiar-looking tattooed figure walking toward him. That figure, who had a three-year-old adopted child named Maddox in tow, was none other than Pitt’s close friend Angelina Jolie.
The twenty-nine-year-old Jolie, according to her publicist, Victor Delanco, had, coincidentally, arrived in Africa the same day Pitt had.
“Ms Jolie is looking for a house and some privacy; that’s what she was doing in Africa,” said Delanco. “I suppose she’ll have to keep on looking. With all the attention being paid to hunger in Africa—and celebrities falling all over themselves to have their pictures taken there—it’s even money she won’t get the kind of privacy she craves. There goes the neighborhood, I suppose.”
Although publicists for the two star-crossed friends declined to reveal the contents of the brief conversation they had before continuing along their respective walks, there is certainly no shortage of events in Pitt’s life they might have discussed.
Pitt’s estranged wife, Jennifer Aniston, recently admitted that she suffers from an eating disorder and a severe hair-care-products dependency. “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria was spotted shopping on Rodeo Drive wearing a pink T-shirt emblazoned with the words, “I'll have your baby, Brad.” And Pitt’s recently established sperm bank is expected to start trading publicly this summer.
In addition, Pitt recently won a best-butt-in-Hollywood poll sponsored by Oxygen magazine. He out-muscled “Be Cool” star Dwayne Johnson and comedic actor Vin Diesel for the honor. Jolie finished a distant third in the distaff voting, behind such notable behinds as Jennifer Lopez’ and Beyoncé Knowles’.
In other news, Pope Benedict XVI continues to maintain that his description of himself as “a decided Augustinian” needs no explanation.

Angelina Jolie:'I have not slept with Brad Pitt'
March 18th, 2005 - Angelina Jolie claims she never slept with Brad Pitt since it is against her policy to sleep with married men.
"Brad is a married man. I wouldn't sleep with a married man. I have enough lovers. I don't need Brad," the actress was quoted by the New York Post as saying.
The Tomb Raider actress, instead, admits to have been sleeping with lots of women: "I've loved women in the past and slept with them.
"I don't want to be involved in a relationship. I have these great friends who cross over to be lovers and there's no reason why there can't be more than one."

Angelina Jolie wants a man who can inspire her!
September 22th, 2004 - Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie has revealed that she has completely sworn off dating actors, instead she now wants a man who can inspire her to do new things. The "Lara Croft" actress who has had two failed marriages with actors, said that she wants to date someone who can teach her how to do things which she has never done before. "If I ever have a relationship again, I don't think it'll be with an actor. I want someone who can teach me, somebody who's already been inspired to do things that I haven't thought of yet," Femail first quoted her as saying.

Angelina Jolie Says It Was Clear Which Fish She Was Meant To Be
September 20th, 2004 - Angelina Jolie chooses to play characters with whom she can identify. Even when she's portraying a fish. "When I was invited in to meet with [the producers] of 'Shark Tale,' they brought me into this room and there were all these different pictures of fish," the actress recalled in a recent roundtable interview. "And they were going to explain to me which fish was what they wanted me to do, and I kind of looked around and I saw this fish that I could see Will [Smith] doing. And then I saw this fish with this big red mouth and pointy eyebrows and I thought, 'They can talk as long as they want. I know I'm that fish.' That was my fish." Jolie was drawn to the sexiness of the fish named Lola, but little did she know that Lola was actually a vixen with ulterior motives. "My mom actually said, 'I don't know why you're the bad fish, you're a good person,' " Jolie joked. In "Shark Tale," an animated mob spoof, Jack Black voices a shark whose family refuses to comprehend his vegetarianism. Will Smith, meanwhile, plays a fish who claims to have killed the shark's brother (voiced by Michael Imperioli of "The Sopranos"). Robert De Niro, Renйe Zellweger, Martin Scorsese, Vincent Pastore, Ziggy Marley and Katie Couric also provide voices. The movie, which opens October 1, marks Jolie's first experience in animation. "I hate my own voice," she said. "Like most people, I listen to myself on a phone or on an answering machine and think, 'Ugh.' So the first time I did it I came in trying to make [different] voices. I felt safer changing my voice, but they didn't let me. They wanted it to just be my voice." Jolie, who co-stars in the just-released "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," has a big fall on the big screen, as she also plays Olympias in "Alexander," due November 5 (see "Colin Farrell Trying To Get Into Alexander's Skin; Angelina Jolie To Join Him"). Of the three, the Alexander the Great biopic was her favorite as she's partial to dramas. "As an actor, it's more fulfilling for your soul," she explained. "And as a woman you can go through so many different emotions and you can analyze yourself and the world and your relationships. So when you're done ... you feel like you've grown and changed." Jolie certainly experienced a mix of emotions working with notoriously bullheaded director Oliver Stone, whose credits include "Any Given Sunday" and "The Doors." "You can disagree or agree with Oliver or where he's coming from," Jolie explained, "but he's coming very straightforward with that and so I appreciate that. He didn't allow anybody to be safe. If anything, he demands a certain kind of commitment and bravery and doesn't allow for anybody to get too relaxed." Jolie experienced Stone's expectations on the first day of shooting "Alexander." "I had this 6-year-old Alexander, which was this little boy, the sweetest little boy, and I had to take him and I had to sing, which I hate doing, with my accent, and hold this python and try to get the python around the boy's neck while I'm singing to him and convince him not to be afraid," Jolie said. "On our first day! And then it was getting really late and I had to switch snakes and pull the other ones out and they were getting kind of wild. And [the trainers] said, 'It's nighttime and they think it's time to feed.' And I said, 'Oliver, it's nighttime and apparently it's feeding time.' And he was like, 'Oh, just get in there!' " Stone also insisted Jolie and co-stars Colin Farrell, Val Kilmer, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Hopkins and Jared Leto stay in character throughout shooting. "He kept getting upset if I lost my accent when we would be out to dinner," she recalled. "He wanted to see everybody become who they were." After "Alexander," Jolie can next be seen in the summer of 2005 alongside Brad Pitt in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," directed by Doug Liman of "Swingers" and "The Bourne Identity" fame. Jolie has scored a couple of summer blockbusters with her "Tomb Raider" movies, but said she is done with the series. Instead, she's considering another epic period piece, playing Catherine the Great in Randall Wallace's "Love and Honor." "I love those historical characters, but I do think they need to be done right," Jolie said. "The more I've researched it, the more I think her story is very full and very deep. I take it kind of seriously, especially if it's a whole different country or a people's hero. To step into that and say, 'OK, I'm going to be this woman that you revere or respect or like or dislike, but she's a part of your history,' I take that very seriously."

Angelina Jolie Press Conference
September 17th, 2004 - Angelina Jolie gave a press conference for Sky Captain, not because she’s too big to do intimate interviews, but more because she’s only a small, yet pivotal, role in the film, and could knock out all the press at once. Jolie plays Franky, an old friend of Sky Captain’s who helps him at one stage in the mission. She has as scene stealing moment where she narrowly escapes a dangerous underwater situation.

In the film, Jolie is a military type, wearing an eye patch, hair pulled back and in a stiff uniform. In person, her hair flowed all over her shoulders and both eyes lit up when talking about her film work. We were also able to get some info on the upcoming Alexander and Shark Tale while we spoke with her.

How tricky was it to play a character that reacts to special effects and blue screen? It was a bit strange. I think that Jude [Law] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] had it worse because they had things coming at them that they were freaking out about, and I had ships coming in behind me and things like that.

Do you have a backstory as to how Franky lost her eye and were you involved in creating that look? I was. She always had one eye, but I did love that about her. We had talked about a back story. I think that the idea is that if this works well, there will be that in a prequel possibly.

How surprised were you when you saw the final product? I haven't. I've seen pieces because I did a bit of ADR and I saw the first trailer. When I was first asked to do it, Jude and Jon Avnet came to visit me and they brought this five minute secret thing and they showed that to me. They showed me that so that I had an idea of what it was going to look like and things like that. Kerry [Conran] had actually worked out…it was almost as if you could watch the movie with these little animated things moving and these little planes. It's a very weird process.

How did you do the scene where you’re underwater and eject into the sky? That was me on my box. That was me with the plastic, big bubble on my head that we kept having to wipe because it kept getting fingerprints on it. Yeah. I was just actually sitting on a box pretending to be doing all of that. I felt very weird.

Can Maddox see Sky Captain? Yeah.

It’s not too intense? No. No.

Do you prefer working in a fantasy base to reality? I loved doing Alexander, and I think that as an actor, it's more fulfilling. It has a soul and you be this woman and you can go through so many different emotions and you can analyze yourself and the world and your relationships and so when you're done with that film you feel like you've really grown and changed. So I like that.

Working with Oliver Stone, what did he teach you? Oliver is a…[Laughs] I think that you can agree with or disagree with Oliver or where he's coming from, but you can't kind of debate who he is. He is who he is and he's coming very straightforward with everything. So I appreciated that. He didn't allow anyone to be safe. If anything, he's demands a certain kind of commitment and bravery and doesn't allow for anyone to kind of get too relaxed. He pushes things so that they're more. So for that he was really great. And I think that he is, like I said agree with him or not agree with him, he does know life more than most people. He has lived very fully in his life. So when he does films that deal with war and loss and love and pain and relationships or whatever it is, he's drawing from a very deep well.

Was it ever painful when he pushed you really hard? It wasn't so much painful. It was just that he expects everything. You can't really come in and say, “I don't feel like, or I'm not sure of or I'd like to change this or give me a few more minutes to get in this place.” It's kind of like he wanted me to be her. He wanted me to come on set as her. He wanted us all to live as our characters and he'd get upset if I lost my accent when we were out to dinner. He wanted to see everyone become who they were. But he would just test me. My first shot in the studio, I had the six year old Alexander who's this little boy who's the sweetest little boy and I had to sing which I hate doing with my accent and hold this python and try to get the python around this boy's neck while I'm singing to him and convince him not to be afraid. On your first day, you know, and then he somehow expects everything. Then it was getting late and I had to switch snakes in the basket and put the other one in there and they were getting kind of wild and they said, “It's nighttime and they think it's time to feed,” and I said, “Oliver, it's nighttime and apparently it's feeding time.” He was like, “Oh, get in there.”

How daunting was it to play Catherine the Great? I love those historical characters. But I do think that they need to be done right which is why it's never been a situation where I'm certainly doing that. That one, the more I've researched her the more I think that her story is very complicated and needs to be done correctly. And so I get nervous that they could be done wrong. I take it seriously especially if it's a whole people's country or a people's hero. To step into that and say, “Okay I'm going to be this woman that you revere or respect or like or dislike, she's a part of your history.” And I just take that more seriously. I want to make sure that it's how people see her and it represents who she actually was. So I'm fascinated by those kind of women. Olympias was that kind of a woman in Alexander.

What do you do in Shark Tale? I'm the bad fish. My mom actually said that. “Why are you the bad fish, honey?” It's been an amazing process. To do an animated film is a very different experience. It's been years of kind of coming in. I think that the first time I did it, I was just trying to make voices and I hate my own voice. Like most people, you listen to yourself on the phone or an answering machine and you're like, 'Ugh.' And so to do something with just your voice is hard.

Did you change your voice? I wanted to. I felt safer changing my voice, but they didn't let me. They wanted my voice.

Did you see the character before you started? Well, they'd made, when I was invited in to meet with them on Shark Tale, they brought me into this room and there were all these different pictures of fish. They were going to explain to me what they wanted me to do and I kind of looked around and I saw this fish that I could see Will [Smith] doing. And I looked at this other fish and then I saw this fish with this big red mouth and pointy eyebrows and I thought, “They can talk as long as they want. I know that I'm that fish.” That was my fish. So I saw her immediately and I knew it and I liked her. It was me just kind of filling those shoes because they made her very sparkly, sexy. So yeah, she came first.

Would you do another Tomb Raider? No. I don't think so. I mean, I loved doing them and I learned so much. I had a great time and I think that I did them. So I tend to not want to do them again.

Is there any other franchise you’d like to be a part of? I don't know. I guess that I've always wanted to be a Bond villain.

How do you feel about the roles available to women these days? I've been very, very lucky. So I'm probably not the person to know what's not out there. I've also found films that could be one way and I think that you can work to make them more. I think that we can always kind of wish that there was more of something for ethnicities, for men, for women, but I think that we all just have to focus on more just trying to get a hold of the character and see if we can make it deeper. And I have been very lucky with the women I've been able to play.

Could you be a soldier if things were different? I could fight. If I believed in what I was fighting for, of course I could. But I'd have to support the war.

Have you considered working with groups to get people to vote? Yeah. I've talked to people about doing that. Because I've been involved in Washington and things, I'm just being very cautious with who I decide to do it with or who I mix politics with. I want to make sure that if I do it, I'm doing it with people who are coming from a great place and we've all educated ourselves properly and that we know what we're doing. Absolutely though, yeah.

Why aren’t more people doing that? I think that if anything, people could be more encouraging. You know, this question about why other people don't more things is maybe because there's so much going on. I think that celebrities and everyone is just sort of finding their way to see what they can do and if they're criticized on their way of finding it, they're not going to do anything.

Angelina and the snake
September 13th, 2004 - Angelina Jolie says she had a tough time working with Oliver Stone on the upcoming epic 'Alexander'. In the film Angelina plays the mother of Alexander the Great and she reckons Oliver Stone wanted perfection - on and off the set and with snakes: "He expected everything. He wanted me to come on set as her. He wanted us all to live as our characters and he kept getting upset if I lost my accent when we were just out to dinner." "He would just test me, my first shot in the studio I was with the six year old Alexander and I had to sing, which I hate doing, with my accent and hold this python and try to get the python around the boys neck while I'm singing to him and try and convince him not to be afraid." "Then it was getting really late and I had to switch snakes in the basket and pull the other ones out and they were getting kind of wild and they said 'You know it's night time and they think it's time to feed', and I said ' You know, Oliver...' and he was like 'Get in there'." Alexander's out in the UK in January.

Jolie's 4-year-old son has blue Mohawk
September 13th, 2004 - Angelina Jolie's son Maddox had a case of the blues when he accompanied his famous mom to a film premiere in Venice, reports Hellomagazine.com. But the youngster wasn't feeling downhearted - he was simply showing off an eye-catching new hairstyle. The 3-year-old was sporting a blue spiky Mohawk at the screening of the animated adventure "Shark Tale." "Maddox is going to watch the film with me and afterwards I've promised him a long boat ride," said Jolie, the voice behind Lola in "Shark Tale." The pair were joined by about 6,000 movie fans in St. Mark's Square, where the film was projected onto a giant inflatable screen. "I'm just thrilled to be here," Jolie said. "It really doesn't compare to any premiere or award ceremony there has been before." Meanwhile, Jolie - the star of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" - is learning to fly and has bought an airplane, reports MSNBC.com. "She travels around a lot, including in Third World countries," a source said. "Piloting her own plane could be very convenient for her."
