Let’s Dance

Words and Music by James Graff

Hanging out one Saturday night

Just hangin’ out tryin’ to be cool

There was nothin’ to do no parties goin’ on

When we heard there was a dance at the school

We were jammin’ and scammin’ and singin’ some songs

When we headed for the high school dance

We were lucky and loaded and lookin’ for action

All we needed was half the chance

Let’s Dance, Let’s Dance

My eyes caught a girl ‘n’ they began to whirl

She was the sweetest thing I’d ever seen

She must have been ‘bout seventeen

I looked her up ‘n’ down and that’s when I found

She was the girl of my dreams

The sweetest girl I’d ever seen

So I got up the guts and I walked up to her

And I asked her for her name:

“Hey, girl what’s your name?”

Beth was her name, she was from out of town

I said: “Oh, that’s such a shame. Beth what pretty name.”

n’ then all of sudden she kissed me with style

Took my hand then she said with a smile

“Come on, Come on,

Let’s Dance all night

Make romance for the rest of the night

No chance any other night

So come on let’s do it…right?

Let’s Dance, Let’s Dance”

She looked real nervous, I didn’t know why

So I asked her why

Just then I guy walked up to us

And I could tell she was with this guy

She said he was her boyfriend, they’d been goin out

I said: “Oh, that’ such a shame”

So I left her alone and danced with other girls

But it just wasn’t the same

Let’s Dance, Let’s Dance

(Let’s Dance!)

I caught up with her later she was so depressed

She started cryin’ on my shoulder

She said that he was to blame

I said we could go outside and talk

Away from the record machine

In the moonlight with the girl of my dreams

We stepped outside and she pulled out a beer

n’ I could tell she was a party queen

(The Girl of my dreams?)

She said she caught him with another girl

She broke up with him

I said: “Oh, what a shame.”

“Hey, girl where were you when

I was dancin’ with all of your friends

Come on, Come on,

Let’s Dance all night

Make romance for the rest of the night

No chance any other night

So come on let’s do it right!

Let’s Dance, Let’s Dance

Hey, girl, hey…I thought you broke up with him

I thought you made me your man

What are you doin’ back with him

Come on, Come on

Come on, Come on

I guess I just blew it tonight.
