The Russian Old-Believers (starovery) have kept their religious rituals unchanged for more than 1000 years. Today, there are 11 starover congregations with approximately 15 000 members in Estonia. A museum situated in Kolkja village on the coast of Lake Peipsi displays traditional clothes, crafts, tools, household items, and religious items of the Old-Believers.
Visitors are welcome from April to September Wed-Sun 11 am - 6 pm, October to March Sat-Sun 11 am to 5 pm. For visits at other times, please make a reservation. Admittance 25 EEK, guide (Russian, Estonian) 100 EEK, groups of more than 6 persons 5 (children) to 10 (adults) EEK. For English-speaking guide please call well in advance.
Not far from the museum, there is also a restaurant serving traditional food made of local fish and vegetables by the recipes of the old-believers. Another village museum can be found in Varnja, 10 km from Kolkja.
