Püha Dorothea
Püha Dorothea oli pärit
Kapadookiast. Ta hukati 6. veebruaril 311. a. keiser Diocletianuse
valitsusajal, kuna ta keeldus tunnistamast paganlikke jumalaid. Teel
hukkamispaika pilkas teda noor seadusetundja Theophilus, paludes endale saata
lilli paradiisiaiast, kuhu neiu oma sõnade järgi valmistus minema. Pärast
hukkamist tõi ingel noormehele korvi kolme roosi ja õunaga ning sõnumi, et
Dorothea kohtub temaga aias. Vanema versiooni järgi tõi talle puuvilju ja
lilli 6-aastane poiss. Selline ime talvisel ajal hämmastas Theophilust ning
temast sai hiljem kristlik märter. Dorothead peetakse aednike
kaitsepühakuks. Tema mälestuspäev on sobiv puude õnnistamiseks. Dorothea was a resident of Caesarea, Cappadocia, who when she refused to sacrifice to the gods during Emperor Diocletian's persecution of the Christians, was tortured by the governor and ordered executed 6 February, 311. On the way to the place of execution, she met a young lawyer, Theophilus, who mockingly asked her to send him fruits from "the garden" she had joyously announced she would soon be in. When she knelt for her execution, she prayed, and an angel with a basket of three roses and three apples, which she sent to Theophilus, telling him she would meet him in the garden. As the oldest version of the legend says, she sent him fruits and roses by a six-year-old boy. Theophilus was surprised of this wonder in winter-time, converted to Christianity and later was martyred. Dorothea is regarded as the
patroness of gardeners. On her feast trees are blessed in some places. In the
West she has been venerated since the seventh century. Her feast day is
February 6th. |
