You are welcome to learn under the guidance of an Egyptian instructors
Also, there will be courses by instructors from Latvia and Estonia.

The workshop schedule of the festival consists of a range of courses for different levels (beginners, intermediate, mixed level (intermediate/advanced) and advanced). Each course teaches a full choreography in a relevant style, expect the technique workshops where combinations and movements of the Egyptian style are taught. The Technique ABC workshops are for those who have just recently taken up dancing or intend to start it now.

Pick out the workshops you want to participate in and register yourself immediately! For signing up, send an e-mail stating your name, e-mail address, phone number and the numbers of the courses selected to estfestreg@gmail.com. Prices are in EEK. Also add, how many and which concert tickets you need. The tickets and the passes for workshops can be obtained from the information desk of the festival, so make sure you pay a visit there before attending the workshops. Information desk will be open on Friday at 12:00.

In reply to your registration you will receive a confirming e-mail. For workshops that require accessories (veil, zills, tabla), take along your own. Alternatively, the accessories can be purchased on the spot, but let us know what you are interested in by e-mailing us in advance. The festival offers a chance to perform both to student troupes as well as to solo acts on all three days. These performances will take place between the workshops on the foyer stage of the festival location. You’re welcome to participate, so register by e-mailing to estfestreg@gmail.com

On Sunday, 21.09, as a part of the 4th International Oriental Dance Festival, will take place dance contest “Oriental Dance Stars 2008” The name “Stars” was picked up because so every participator could shine joyfully on the stage! :)

We are expecting Estonian dancers to participate on following categories:

Soloists – amateurs
Soloists – professionals – dancers who teach and/or are performing for fee
Duets and trios
Groups (from 4 dancers)

This year we are organizing also international contest, which is meant only for soloists – professionals. Estonia will be represented by the winner(s) of the Estonian part of the professional’s contest.

We are expecting all participants to dance one dance by your own choice. It might be a dance which you like the most, which reveals the best sides and skills of the dancer to the audience and is pleasant to perform so you would be able to shine on the stage like a star! Length of the dance in professional category is 3-7 min. Number of participants is limited!

Asmahan is from Argentina and is from many years back working as a professional dancer in Egypt. She is today one of the most famous dancers in Egypt. She started studying classical ballett when she was 6 years old. When she was 14 years old, she started studying Spanish and Flamenco and when she was 16 she moved on to dance oriental dance.

Asmahan soon became a professional dancer and has since then been working as a professional oriental dancer in Argentina and all over the world where she´s been performing in five star hotels and for royalties and diplomats. She has been broadcasted in Tv and Media all over the world and been cooperating with many famous artists.

She has been working as a dancer in Alexandria and in Cairo in many five star hotels like Sheraton Montaza Cairo Sheraton, Meridien, Semiramis Intercontinental, Conrad Hotel among many other hotels.

Nowadays apart from her work as a dancer in Egypt, she is travelling to make shows in different European countries {France, Switzerland, England, Ukraine Russia, Singapore in Asia, Argentina} She has been teaching belly dancing the past few years.

This is the first time she will be visiting Estonia and we are very honored to present her as a guest teacher of our festival.

Aida Nour is originally from Alexandria in Egypt. She started her dance career as a young dancer in the Alexandria Troup. She was performing Egyptian folklore dances and solodances for many years with them. After many years of touring with the Alexandria Troup, Aida moved to Cairo. There she became a member of the famous Reda Troup for many years. Aida began to perform as a solo dancer later on and her success was big. She performed on many of Cairo's most famous five star Hotels and Nightclubs, and became a very popular and loved artist with lots of regular guests that all adored her beautiful dance.

Aida sadly enough stopped to perform in Egypt but occasionally her audience can still see her performe when she travels to give a workshop somewhere in the world.

Aida Nour is now designing Costumes for dancers and other artists with her own elegant and exclusive design and teaching orientaldance everywhere in the world.

Aida has her own studio in Giza in Cairo and welcomes you for a private session in oriental dance and the oppurtunity to see her lovely designes!

Aida Nour is one of the three organisers (Aida Nour, Freiz Sayed and Mohamed Abou Shebika) oriental dance festival Nile Group that started in June 2005 in Cairo Egypt. At the Nile Group festival you can see Aida perform every now and then as well as have a look at her costumes in the bazaar area.

Fellahin means – farmers of Egypt. The music always includes vocals, and the dance movements follow those vocals. A Fellahi dance depicts the everyday work of the farmers, such as gathering food in a basket and collecting water in jugs. The costuming for women includes a loose, long dress that is ruffled at the bottom and very wide, along with a veil worn on the head. Sometimes a long scarf is worn around the neck, which the dancer may tie around her hips during the dance to make her hip movements more visible.

SIWA is one of the Bedouin dance styles. Bedouin inhabitation SIWA is by the border of Egypt with Libya, in Sahara desert between mountains. Not a long time ago SIWA was one of the most inaccessible oases in Egypt. It is also one of uncommon oases. SIWA people have their own culture and traditions, they talk Berber language, which differs from Arabic. Most of women wear folkloric dresses and silver. Translated from Berber language - WAHET SIWA – sounds like „oasis in the city “. SIWA is the name of the city and nation.
The main accent in the dances is focused on hips. Only small circle of professionals master this style. Traditional dress of this style is knee-high GALABIYA with wide pants, and also scarf on the head which covers half of the face. Women like wearing a lot of accessories.

Om Kalthoum was a famous classical singer ang songwriter in Egypt, her songs have a great importance in arabic culture. Khaled Mahmoud is based in London, UK but travels frequently around the globe for workshops and performances.

His presence on stage is unforgettable. His movements are dazzling. With a captivating smile and shimmies that seem like a minor earthquake - few dancers improvise and entertain an audience like Khaled does. He has quickly made himself a name both as a mesmerizing dancer and a respected sought-after teacher all over the world.
Khaled started dancing in Cairo many years ago when he was just seven years old at parties and weddings, his father thought he was very artistic so he sent him to study Ballet for six years.

He went on to College to study accounts, so no time for dancing. When he finished College and working in a factory, he danced with a group for four years dancing Egyptian style. It was during this time he took Belly Dancing lessons with Abrahim Akef and many master teachers in Cairo, then Khaled became a Belly Dancing teacher himself for six years at the Maade Club and also worked on M/S Alexander the Great Cruise Boat in the evenings.

He likes the style of the old Belly Dancers Naima Akif, Tahia Carioca, Samia Gamal and all new style dancers.

Since arriving in England in 2001 he has held workshops and performed in shows all over the UK and in 2002 launched his International career at the Belly Dance Festival in Sweden. He now travels the world teaching and performing.
He is also part of the Nile Group in Cairo and Shewaya Sharqi in Finland. Here in England he organizes the Egyptian Moonlight Workshops and Show yearly.
Khaled is coming to Estonia already second time!

Khaleegy is a dance form from Arabian Gulf. Khaliji means „gulf“ in arabic and referring to the countries in Gulf region (Iran, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrein, Oman). Women wear an oversized dress or „thobe nasha’ar“, which forms an important part of the dance. The hair is often thrown from side to side or in other patterns, creating a stunning visual effect.


IRINA LISOVSKAJA (Latvia)

Dancer and dance teacher from Latvia (Riga). Dancing oriental dance since 2000. Irina has been learning by acknowledged teachers in Cairo and Moscow. Irina is the president of Latvian Oriental Dance Association and one of the organizers of dance contest „Miss Oriental“. She is working in romany troupe „Ame Roma“. She is attending theatre plays, also cinema and TV shootings.

Juliana Petersone (Latvia)

PILLE ROOSI

PILLE ROOSI has mastered the vocation of a dance instructor and a choreographer in Tallinn University (former Tallinn’s Pedagogical Institute). She has been involved with classical Indian dancing (since 1984) and flamenco (since 1992) and started to teach oriental dance since 1996.
Pille has created dance spectacles Haarem (2000), My life/Moods (2006) and Kingitus Raehärrale (Gift for Alderman) and many choreographies for dancers from Estonia, Latvia and Finland.
Pille is co-founder of the Estonian first professional dance troupe Zahira (1999) Pille is the organizer of International Oriental Dance Festival in Tallinn (4th festival since 2003) and other international dance events in Estonia.

AILI REHA

She started with belly dance in dance studio Amrita. She started teaching in 2003 and currently teaching belly dance in Tallinn, Keila and Saku. During the years she has developed her belly dance skills and knowledge with famous teachers both in Estonia and abroad.

She has danced since childhood (ballroom dance, ballet, aerobics) and has been dancing 26 years in folk-dance group „Tuisuline”. She is also familiar with other dance styles such as afro, latino and hip-hop.

She has created choreographies for her belly dance group, worked together with musicians, lead different dance courses and workshops. Her belly dance group „Asmarah” was awarded with the 2nd place in Estonian International Oriental Dance Festival 2007.

Berit Vill a.k.a. Aicha started oriental dance in 2000. She has worked as a dancer in several countries such as Estonia, Latvia, France, Greece. In 2007 with colleagues Kaidi Udris and Sandra Vokk founded Müstika Maagiline Teater, where she has been working since. Berit started bellydancing under a well known teacher of oriental and indian classical dance and a professor of Tallinn University, Pille Roosi.

Ines started to learn dancing at the age of five, when parents took her to a ballet and gumnastics classes. She started to learn oriental dance year 2000. She was and still is developing regulary her Polynesian dance skills in Finland and US. Ines performed with the Georges Lammam Ensamble in San Francisco in june 2008. She stayed there 1,5 month. Ines took place in the Nile Group Solo Competition in Cairo 2008 (april). Her pictures were published in the US photo and prose book "Belly Dance Celebrating the Sacred Feminine". Ines went to participate in the International Belly Dancing Convention 2007 in Las Vegas.
