The village of Laossina
Near the village are mounds dating from the 2nd half of the first millenium. The village is sited on the shore of Lake Pihkva at the mouth of Lüütja brook. Time ago there were two villages here: Laossina and Uus-Laossina, or Lüütja. The latter was the village that serviced the local manor. The village dates from the 15th century as well as the cemetery with its ancient stone crosses. From 1750, timber was floated and breadcorn and vodka were rafted by the villagers down the river to Narva and Pskov. Besides fishing, grain was grown although the soil was poor. The crops with the best yield were rye, barley, oats and buckwheat. The village was surrounded by large woods with a lot of game and wild birds. The lake was full of fish. In 1880 there were three sparling processing plants in the village. Fish is largely caught and dried even today. The tsässon (chapel) built in 1880 is consecrated to Virgin Mary, thus Väike-Maarjapäev (the Day of the Birth of the Virgin) is also the tsässon and village holiday. During the tsarist period the village was part of the Lüübnitsa community and as a congregation, subject to Kolpino Church.
