The COMPETITION PROGRAMME for PIANISTS

PIANO - Category A (born after May 1, 2000)

Preliminary Round
(VHS videotape or DVD)
1. One study
2. A cantilena piece

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.


Round I 1. A polyphonic piece by J. S. Bach

2. One study by C. Czerny

3. A.cantilena piece

4. A sonatina or sonata (a whole or parts) by one of the following composers: F. J. Haydn, M. Clementi, F. Kuhlau, W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 15 minutes.


Round II
Accompanied by
Chamber Orchestra
One of the following pieces:

1. L. Sumera Kolm maailmaimet (“Three Wonders of the World”)
2. R. Kangro Kassikontsert ("Concerto of a Cat") Pages 1-14 (460 KB)

3. R. Laur Tüdruk ja draakon (“The Girl and The Dragon”)

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetition.

PIANO - Category B (born May 1, 1997 - May 1, 2000)

Preliminary Round
(VHS videotape or DVD)
1. One study
2. A cantilena piece

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.


Round I 1. Lepo Sumera Ostinato Variations ( pdf-file - 2,72 MB )
2. A polyphonic piece by J. S. Bach
3. One study or a masterly piece

4. A
cantilena piece by a 19.century composer

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 20 minutes.


Round II
Accompanied by
Chamber Orchestra
One of the following piano concertos:
  J. S. Bach Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056
  J. Haydn Concerto in D major, Hob. XVIII:11, movements 2 and 3
  W. A. Mozart Concerto in C major No 8, K 246 movement I

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.
